Geoportal IKAR was created as part of a project commissioned by the Ministry of Environment, which has been implemented by the PGI-NRI since 2006. Geoportal IKAR is a response to obligations arising to PGI-NRI from the INSPIRE Directive, such as the provision of services in accordance with specified standards. The Geoportal IKAR has been available online since 2007.

In 2007, PGI-NRI developed and implemented a service catalog CSW (Catalogue Service for the Web) and first WMS (Web Map Service) was shared. In the same year a metadata profile for PGI-NRI was developed and the first steps in metadata edition were made.

In 2008, the Institute had trained teams that subsequently began the process of metadata edition within their departments

We are currently working on the next version of the Geoportal IKAR. The new Geoportal IKAR is an element of the PGI-NRI Geoinformation Strategy developed and implemented in the framework of a project "An Integrated Information System of Polish Geological Institute - National Research Institute (PGI-NRI ZSI) based on the SOA". This project aims at development and implementation of a PGI-NRI communication channel, in the framework of which the Geoportal IKAR will be transformed into an access platform through which all information contained in the PGI-NRI databases will be available.

Since August 2014 a new metadata catalog has been available. In addition, a new map browser will be made available soon. These tools, which have been developed according to applicable standards and the latest technology, will allow you to acquire data in a fast and reliable way.

We encourage you to share your feedback on the new version of Geoportal IKAR. Comments should be sent to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
