Import of potassium-magnesium salts

In recent years Poland imported approx. 800,000 of potash salt per year. The demand for that commodity has been rising slightly each year since the 1990’s. That trend was abruptly interrupted in 2009 when imports and consumption of potash salt in Poland fell from 800,000 to 200,000 tonnes following the global crisis and an increase in the price of that commodity. However, that trend was reversed as early as 2010 and potash salt sales have again exceeded 800,000 tonnes.

Potassium chloride that accounts for 95% of the imports is purchased mainly in Belarus, Russia and Germany, while sulphate (polyhalite) salts are imported from Germany, Belgium and Sweden.
