Between the 4th and 9th of September 2018, the Climate Change Conference in Bangkok was held as part of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). Its main purpose was to accelerate work on the Paris Agreement Work Programme (PAWP).
The discussions focused on draft implementation plan of the Paris Agreement, which must be completed before the 24th United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP24) in Poland.
The Bangkok conference was attended by over 1600 participants, including over 1200 government officials and nearly 400 representatives of United Nations bodies and agencies, intergovernmental organizations, civil society organizations as well as the media.
Specialists from the PGI-NRI, Urszula Czarniecka-Januszczyk and Dr Izabela Ploch took part in the conference as leading experts supporting the Ministry of the Environment to deal with challenges of adaptation and mitigation of climate change as well as social issues related to it. Geological Survey Organisations (GSOs) can significantly contribute to the process of adapting to climate change, and all activities related to it are very important to us.
