This prestigious event was organised by the ProGEO Association, which is a member of the International Union of Geological Sciences and the International Union for Conservation of Nature. Its main objective is to promote the protection of key geological sites and geological heritage, carrying scientific, educational, tourism and cultural value. A representative of the SNational Geological Institute-PIB also attended the event. Lasting two and a half days, the meeting focused on paper sessions, poster sessions and a field session.

A representative of the Świętokrzyskie Branch of PGI-PIB, mgr Witold Wesołowski, took part in the paper session, presenting the topic entitled "Project of a geoeducational path in the historic iron and uranium mine in Rudki, Holy Cross Mountains (Poland)". The presentation, prepared in collaboration with dr hab. Anna Fijałkowska-Mader and mgr inż. Ewelina Bąk, presented the project for a geoeducational path in Rudki. During the presentation, the speaker gave a detailed account of planned activities and also outlined initiatives related to the popularisation of geological knowledge at the Świętokrzyskie Branch of PGI-PIB.

The field session provided a unique opportunity for symposium participants to visit several geostations within the Charnwood Forest Geopark, an area applying for UNESCO World Geoparks Network status.
