'Geological Quarterly' has a new editor-in-chief. By the decision of the Director of the Polish Geological Institute - NRI, prof. dr hab. Tadeusz Peryt.

Prof. dr hab. Tadeusz Peryt has been an employee of the Polish Geological Institute since 1974. He received the title from the President in 1992; since then he has been employed at the Institute as a professor.

The topics of his research include sedimentation and diagenesis of carbonate and evaporite formations, as well as stratigraphy and paleogeography of Zechstein and Miocene deposits. He also researches Miocene formations in the Ukraine.

He is the author or co-author of 111 scientific publications on the Web of Science list (171 on the Scopus list), as well as the scientific editor (or co-editor) of several monographs, including five published by international publishing houses (including "Coated Grains", 1983, Spinger and "The Permian of Northern Pangea", 1993, Springer).

In the years 1991-2000 he was the editor-in-chief of "Przegląd Geologiczny", and in the years 2012-2018 and 2019-2023 - "Geological Quarterly". He currently serves on the editorial committees of four JCR-listed journals, as well as six others aspiring to the list. The professor is the supervisor of nine defended doctoral dissertations. He has been a participant in more than 100 international congresses, symposia and scientific conferences and has organised or co-organised 10 international and 12 national symposia, as well as 35 special sessions at international congresses and symposia.

Currently, he is, among others, president of the Management Board of the Polish Geological Society and vice-president of the International Biopetrological Association, as well as a member of the Council of the International Paleogeography Society. He is a foreign member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and a correspondent member of the Polish Academy of Arts and Sciences. He is also Chairman of the Scientific Council of the Institute of Geological Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences. He was a member of the Scientific Council of PGI from 1989 to 2008 and from 2011 to 2021.

In the years 1998-2000, he was director of geological research, in 2001 - deputy director of PGI, and in 2006-2008 - director of PGI. From 2019 to 2021, the Professor was scientific secretary and chairman of the PGI-NRI evaluation committee.

"Geological Quarterly" is the flagship English-language journal of the Polish Geological Institute-NRI, published since 1957. The publishing house is now the leading Earth science journal in Poland. It also acts as an international forum for the exchange of information and ideas on important geological topics on a Polish, European and global scale. All aspects of Earth and related sciences are discussed in its pages, as well as universal regional topics. Since 2003, the quarterly journal has been included in the Science Citation Index Expanded database, including Web of Science, Research Alert, Current Contents/Physical, Chemical & Earth Sciences, American Geological Institute/Bibliography and Index of Geology, Elsevier/GeoAbstracts, Geobase and BIOSIS UK/Zoological Records, and its IF has exceeded 1 for several years.
