THERMAL METHODS

Thermal field is the kinetic energy of rock particles, expressed in temperature. Heat recorded on the Earth's surface is the sum of heat generated in its interior and radiogenic heat generated as a result of the half-life decay of radioactive elements. Construction of thermal maps is based on well data, whose distribution is homogeneous in the territory of Poland. However, it is an excellent source of information on a regional scale.

In the territory of Poland we observe considerable variations of geothermal parameters. Clearly visible are areas of high and low heat flow. They reflect the geological structure: the younger Palaeozoic platform (higher heat flow values) and the older East European Craton (lower heat flow values). The relationship between the age of the area and its thermal maturity is obvious.
