Marine natural aggregate deposits

The Baltic Sea deposits of gravel and sand aggregates are known for their excellent quality due to the natural selection of detrital material in marine conditions. Specialists of the PGI-NRI Marine Geology Branch have already documented four deposits of gravel and sand aggregates in the Polish marine areas with intrinsically economic resources of  147, 983 thousand tons and with the total area of the deposit fields amounting to 70.8 square kilometres.
It is one of the objectives of a project of detailed exploration of the geological structure  of some selected areas of the Baltic Sea bed carried out by the PGI-NRI is to expand the natural aggregate raw material base and indentify possibilities of extracting the aggregates from the marine deposits while following the principles of sustainable development.

WE OFFER

  • Planning the geological work and drafting documentation of the resources of the Baltic Sea sands and gravels
  • Designing projects of the management of marine natural aggregate deposits
  • Exploration and documentation of marine sand deposits used for artificial feeding of  beaches and recommendations on the method of sand exploitation
  • Making an assessment of the impact of the marine aggregate exploitation on the structure of the seabed and assemblages of organisms living on the Baltic Sea bed
