Analysis usingEED and GHE TOOL
Earth Energy Designer (EED) is specialist software designed for the design and analysis of geothermal systems, in particular ground-source heat pump (GSHP) systems and borehole thermal energy storage (BTES) systems.
This software enables the calculation of expected changes in the heat transfer fluid temperature, thereby allowing the selection of the number, depth and layout of borehole heat exchangers in such a way as to achieve the desired temperature parameters and maintain minimum and maximum temperature limits. Using EED, it is possible to verify whether the selected number, depth and spacing of borehole heat exchangers are appropriate for the given lithological conditions.
Thanks to its versatility and precision, it is an invaluable tool during the design, simulation and optimisation phases of geothermal systems, for both small and large installations.
Key features and capabilities of the software:
- enables the design and modelling of ground-source heat exchangers,
- enables long-term simulation to predict ground temperature and system efficiency over time,
- enables analysis of the impact of seasonal changes in heat load on system performance,
- enables optimisation of the selection of heat exchanger lengths and other system parameters, which helps to improve energy efficiency and reduce operating costs,
- offers the ability to compare different system configurations in order to select the most efficient solutions,
- generates graphs and reports that visualise simulation results, such as changes in ground temperature, system performance and other key indicators.
GHE Tool is software designed to support the design, simulation and analysis of geothermal energy systems, including ground-source heat pump (GSHP) systems and borehole thermal energy storage (BTES) systems. It enables users to model the thermal performance of ground heat exchangers under different operating conditions and to assess the influence of ground thermal properties, borehole configuration and heating and cooling loads on system performance.
The software supports the evaluation and comparison of alternative geothermal system configurations, helping to optimise borehole field design and assess long-term thermal behaviour. By enabling simulations based on defined ground properties and operating scenarios, GHE Tool can assist in identifying suitable design parameters and evaluating the efficiency of geothermal installations.
Additional features and capabilities of GHEtool include:
- modelling of complex borefield layouts using GIS/CAD coordinates,
- simulation of multilayer geological formations with varying thermal properties,
- hourly and multi-year heating and cooling load simulations,
- combined active and passive cooling simulations,
- analysis of thermal interference between borefields,
- borefield sizing optimisation and hybrid system modelling,
- 2D ground temperature distribution visualisation,
- variable fluid properties and flow rate modelling.
