Field trip

First day of the field trip (June 26th) will focus to Callovian and especially Oxfordian limestones of the Kraków-Częstochowa Jura Upland, which are relatively rich in decapods – mainly crabs – connected with Late Jurassic sponge buildups of the peri-Tethyan epicontinental sea.

Second day of the field trip (June 27th) will be related to the latest Jurassic/earliest Cretaceous so-called Štramberk-type coral-bearing limestones of the Outer Flysch Carpathians (Štramberk, Czech Republic), which occur now as huge olistoliths within Late Cretaceous flysch deposits. We will visit famous Kotouč quarry where decapod crustaceans are sometimes abundant.

Notice: your way home – you can choose one of two options:

  1. you can come back to Kraków and spend there last night before your departure (distance between Štramberk and Kraków is about 2.5-3.0 hours by bus, arrival time in Kraków: 7-8 pm of June 27th) or
  2. you can finish the field trip in Ostrava (about 40 km from Štramberk – by our bus it takes about 1 h, arrival time in Ostrava: 5-6 pm of June 27th) and then fly home from Ostrava airport of June 27th or 28th.

If you choose the 2nd option (and especially when you have flight in June 28th from Ostrava), please, let me know by e-mail and I will help you book hotel in Ostrava.
