Farewell to Professor Grzegorz Pieńkowski
It was with disbelief and deep sadness that we received the news about the death of Professor Grzegorz Pieńkowski – a long-time employee of the Polish Geological Institute. He died on 19 April 2023 at the age of 69.
Polish Geological Institute-NRI is categorised as 'A' again!
The Polish Geological Institute – National Research Institute was awarded Category 'A' because of the evaluation of its scientific activities. This brings us back to the top of the list of Polish research institutes, where we were last ranked in 2009.
New PGI-NRI publication: ‘Catalogue of sedimentation basins of Poland’
A new publication containing the Catalogue of Sedimentary Basins of Poland has been published within the series PGI Works ('Prace PIG').
The upper silesian branch of the PGI-NRI implements an innovative project to reduce methane emissions
On 30-31 March 2023, a meeting was held to kick-off the implementation of the project titled "Reduction of methane emissions from post-mining goafs to minimise their inflow into VAM” (RME), co-funded by the EU’s Research Fund for Coal and Steel (RFCS) and the Ministry of Education and Science. The project will be completed in July 2027.
