cgsOn March 30, 2021, an online meeting was held between the Czech Geological Survey (CGS) and the Polish Geological Institute - National Research Institute (PIG-PIB).

CGS was represented by Director Zdenek Venera and experts, while PIG-PIB was represented by the Deputy Director Andrzej Głuszynski, the Director of Lower Silesian Branch Karol Zawistowski with a team of specialists, as well as the Deputy Head of International Cooperation Team.

The purpose of the meeting was to refresh cooperation which takes place as part of the currently binding Memorandum of Understanding. PIG-PIB and CGS are bound by long-term transborder cooperation carried out on the basis of joint projects (e.g. Sudeten Geo-highway, Śnieżnik Massif: a geotouristic map in the 1:50,000 scale, GECON or GeoPLasma- CE) and cooperation as part of the membership in EuroGeoSurveys association.

During the meeting, the directors made presentations of the latest achievements of both geological surveys, current projects and planned undertakings. In the content-related part of the meeting, specialists from each of the surveys gave three thematic presentations per survey. In the case of PIG-PIB, they concerned: an overview of projects of the Polish Geological Survey in south-western Poland, which may shed new light on the geothermal potential of the region; latest geodynamic studies of the Sudetenland region; and a detailed geological map of the Sudetenland. Presentations by Czech experts focused on research in the field of geoenergy, safe storage of radioactive waste and assessment of groundwater resources.

The meeting allowed for the exchange of experience and to discuss current trends in the activities of both geological surveys. Another meeting was agreed upon to discuss details for jointly applying to international financial programs (e.g. Interreg.).
