"Oni tworzyli Państwowy Instytut Geologiczny (eng.They formed the Polish Geological Institute)" is the latest book publication, concluding the jubilee of the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Institute, celebrated from 2019.

The beautifully published volume presents the profiles of one hundred prominent employees whose work has had a special impact on the fate of the Institute and on the progress of geological sciences, and thus on the country.

It was not easy for the authors of the over 200-page work to select one hundred persons from among thousands of employees who have been employed at PGI for over a hundred years. Among the distinguished figures were the first, meritorious directors of the Polish Geological Institute: Józef Morozewicz, Karol Bohdanowicz, Jan Czarnocki and Józef Zwierzycki, as well as other outstanding geologists: stratigraphers, cartographers, geochemists, petrologists, paleontologists and many other scientists of various specialties. Among selected heroes are the authors of many geological discoveries, including valuable mineral deposits, such as Jan Samsonowicz, Jan Wyżykowski, Katarzyna and Stanisław Pawłowscy and Jerzy Znosko.

"The publication is a tribute not only to the selected hundred, but, as it were, to all who have worked and continue to work for its (the Institute's) success. From these 100 selected individuals, we drew and still want to draw inspiration and strength for further actions. It is thanks to their achievements, among others, that the Institute has entered the next centenary year with its head held high, but also with the awareness of the responsibility it bears" - these are the words from the introduction by PGI-NRI Director Mateusz Damrat which best reflect the idea behind preparing our latest book.

The publication "Oni tworzyli Państwowy Instytut Geologiczny " is a collective work by 42 authors - present and retired employees of the Institute and edited by Anna Bagińska, Ewa Dąbrowska-Jędrusik, Tadeusz Peryt and Stanisław Wołkowicz.
