zaj malachitOn March 1, 2022, the Council of Ministers approved a resolution on the adoption of the "National Raw Materials Policy" (NRMP), submitted by the Government Plenipotentiary for the National Raw Materials Policy. The main objective of the document is to ensure the country's raw material security.

- The adopted resolution on the National Raw Materials Policy is a strategic document which identifies raw materials necessary for the proper functioning of the domestic economy. It defines the demand for raw materials and determines the actions necessary to secure access to them – explained Deputy Minister Piotr Dziadzio, Government Plenipotentiary for the National Raw Materials Policy and Poland’s Chief Geologist.

The National Raw Materials Policy indicates the tasks necessary to ensure access to domestic and imported resources, both now and in the perspective of 2050. This should secure the country's long-term needs resulting from the adopted path of economic development and ensure a high standard of living for its citizens.

The main objective of the "National Raw Materials Policy" will be implemented through specific objectives, which include:

  • ensuring access to raw materials from mineral deposits,
  • exploration, appraisal and documentation of mineral deposits,
  • ensuring favorable legal conditions for the present and future investors, and developing and modernizing the geological and mining industry,
  • protection of mineral deposits,
  • international cooperation with respect to securing access to raw materials,
  • obtaining raw materials from anthropogenic deposits and supporting development of a closed-cycle economy,
  • ensuring coherence between the strategies pursued by companies of key importance to the state economy, as well as companies fulfilling a public mission, and the activities of Poland’s Chief Geologist, acting as the Government Plenipotentiary for the State Raw Materials Policy,
  • dissemination of knowledge.

Implementation of the assumptions of the "National Raw Materials Policy" should bring the following results:

  • reduction of investment risk in geological and mining activities,
  • development of the broadly understood geological-mining industry,
  • increase in the security of raw materials, including energy security, as well as economic and social benefits resulting from it,
  • minimization of the amount of generated waste and maximization of the recovery of raw materials from secondary sources,
  • ensuring access to documented mineral deposits through their proper protection against development,
  • integrating the activities of all entities carrying out activities in the area of securing access to raw materials.
