grafika ilustracyjnaOn June 23, 2022, representatives of the geological surveys of Poland and Ukraine, in the presence of the Deputy Minister of Climate and Environment, Poland’s Chief Geologist Dr. Piotr Dziadzio, signed an Agreement on Cooperation in Geology and Raw Materials.

The meeting with Deputy Minister Piotr Dziadzio on the directions of further bilateral cooperation was attended by the Director of the Polish Geological Institute - Dr. Mateusz Damrat, as well as Director General of the Ukrainian Geological and Underground Research Survey Roman Opimakh and Charge d'affaires of the Ukrainian Embassy Oleh Kuts.

- I express my conviction that the signing of the cooperation agreement will provide a basis for further actions and implementations of mutual projects. I look forward to vigorous cooperation between the geological surveys in this regard - said Poland’s Chief Geologist Piotr Dziadzio.

The partnership with Ukraine will be implemented in several areas of cooperation, including economic geology, environmental geochemistry, geological heritage, laboratory research, mapping, engineering geology and hydrogeology. The document envisions intensive cooperation over the next five years.

The "Memorandum of Understanding on Geology and Raw Materials" has been signed. Subsequently, the Director General of the Ukrainian Geological Survey Roman Opimakh hosted a meeting at the headquarters of the Polish Geological Institute - NRI in Warsaw. The meeting was attended by Mateusz Damrat, Director of PGI - NRI, Andrzej Gluszynski, Deputy Director of the Polish Geological Survey, Marta Banasiewicz, Head of the International Cooperation Team, Radomir Pachytel, Senior Specialist for Geology, and representatives of the Ministry of Climate and Environment Michał Nowosielski and Magdalena Gucwa - Rydelek, while on the Ukrainian side - Director General of the Ukrainian Geological Survey Roman Opimakh and Serhii Zasovenko - First Secretary of the Ukrainian Embassy in the Republic of Poland.

During the visit, basic information about the functioning of the Polish Geological Survey was presented. Director Opimakh was particularly interested in the functioning of the Institute's laboratories, the activities of Poland’s Geological Archive, and projects related to exploration, prospecting and exploitation of mineral resources. After a discussion about further cooperation, Prof. Tatiana Solovey gave a presentation on the international hydrogeological project EU-WaterRes, which aims to increase the capacity of public institutions to manage trans-border groundwater resources.

The guests also toured the Geological Museum.

We hope that the geological work carried out together will not only be important in rebuilding Ukraine, but will also influence the acceleration of economic investment between our countries.
