The badge was established by way of a resolution of the Sosnowiec City Council, and has been awarded since late 1990s. It is awarded by the President of the City of Sosnowiec, at the proposal of the Chapter of the Badge, to natural or legal persons, as well as entities and institutions who, through their professional and social activities, have significantly contributed to the city and its citizens, and to the development and promotion of the city.

By receiving this honourable accolade Janusz Jureczka, the director of the PIG-PIB Upper Silesia Branch, emphasized that the Branch is receiving it at a special occasion of the 100th anniversary of its activities and 60th anniversary of its presence in Sosnowiec. He also thanked not only on behalf of the Branch’s employees, but also of several generations of geologists, who have been developing the strong position of the Branch over the past decades. He also expressed deep conviction that the Branch would continue, for the following 100 years, to implement the tasks of State Geological and Hydrogeological Survey for the country, region and the society.

On the occasion of receiving this prestigious distinction, the PIG-PIB Upper Silesia Branch received congratulations and compliments from the MP’s from Sosnowiec – Senator of the Republic of Poland, Beata Małecka-Libera, and a Member of the Parliament’s Lower House, Mateusz Bochenek.
