grafika ilustracyjna'Geological Quarterly' has a new editor-in-chief. By decision of the Director of the Polish Geological Institute – NRI, dr hab. Piotr Szrek has become the new one. He will lead our journal for the next four years.

The new editor-in-chief – dr hab. Piotr Szrek is presently PIG-NRI's Deputy Director for Research and Development and the Institute's Scientific Secretary. In the past, he also managed the PGI-NRI Geological Museum.

Piotr Szrek is active in scientific cooperation, both nationally and internationally. He was a contractor and manager of scientific grants financed by the Ministry of Science and the National Science Centre. He has also implemented foreign-funded grants (e.g., from the National Geographic Society) and internal grants carried out as part of the statutory activities of PGI-NRI.

He has participated in and co-organised numerous national and international conferences and symposia on geological topics, with a particular focus on palaeontology. From 2009 to 2012, he was a member of the steering committee of Scientific Collections International and continues to work with the Global Registry of Scientific Collections International to this day. On several occasions, he has participated in work on the coordination and management of scientific natural history collections worldwide.

He has authored or co-authored more than 80 scientific publications, including over 30 peer-reviewed papers, in reputable scientific journals (most of which are listed by JCR). He also regularly reviews papers for scientific journals.

He is the recipient of many prizes and awards related to scientific activity, including the Special Award of the Prime Minister and the Traveller Prize awarded by National Geographic Poland.

The main scientific interests of dr hab. Piotr Szrek are vertebrate palaeontology related to the Świętokrzyskie Mountains, as well as trace fossils, fossil soils, palaeoecology and evolutionary processes at the water-land interface.

'Geological Quarterly' is the flagship English-language journal of the Polish Geological Institute-National Research Institute, published since 1957. The publication is currently the leading journal of earth sciences in Poland. It also serves as an international forum for the exchange of information and ideas on important geological issues in Poland, Europe and the world. On its pages all aspects of Earth and related sciences as well as universal regional topics are discussed.

Since 2003, the quarterly journal has been included in the Science Citation Index Expanded database, including Web of Science, Research Alert, Current Contents/Physical, Chemical & Earth Sciences, American Geological Institute/Bibliography and Index of Geology, Elsevier/GeoAbstracts, Geobase and BIOSIS UK/Zoological Records, and its IF has exceeded 1 for several years.
