The following have been elected to the Committee on Geological Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences: prof. dr hab. Paweł Aleksandrowski (Lower Silesia Branch of PGI-PIB in Wrocław), dr. hab. Marek Jarosiński, prof. of the Institute (Department of Regional Geology), prof. dr. hab. Tadeusz Peryt (Department of Regional Geology), dr hab. The following have been elected to the Quaternary Research Committee of the Polish Academy of Sciences: dr hab. Anna Hrynowiecka, prof. of the Institute (Marine Geology Branch of PIG-PIB in Gdańsk).

The Committee of Geological Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences was established in 1952. Its duties include evaluation of research priorities and directions of development of geology from the scientific and practical point of view, elaboration of specialised opinions and expert opinions, also for practical purposes (e.g. construction of the dam on the Dunajec river in Czorsztyn), evaluation of the state of scientific specialisations in the field of geology and level of geological education in Poland.

The Quaternary Research Committee of the Polish Academy of Sciences was established in 1964. It deals with issues of Quaternary research carried out in the fields of geological, physical-geographical, biological and archaeological sciences. It is a platform for the integration of scientists from different fields and disciplines, representing the main scientific centres in Poland. This allows for interdisciplinary research into the latest geological period, the Quaternary. Organised meetings, sessions and conferences enable the exchange of scientific ideas and the presentation of research results. The Committee serves as the National Committee for Cooperation with the International Union for Quaternary Research (INQUA).

The terms of elected members are four years.
