grafika ilustracyjnaOn 5–8 May 2025, Copenhagen hosted the anniversary conference of the Geoscience Information Consortium (GIC), an international consortium of geological services and institutions from around the world. The main objective of the GIC is to exchange experiences in the field of geological system development strategies and geoinformation in the broadest sense.

This year's edition was attended by representatives of geological services from several dozen countries, including Poland. As every year, conference participants presented national reports summarising achievements, challenges and key initiatives in the field of geoinformation in their countries. The Polish Geological Institute – National Research Institute (PGI-NRI) was represented by Katarzyna Jóźwik from the Geological Cartography Department, who presented the Polish national report. The report was prepared by a team consisting of: Deputy Director for State Geological Service Olimpia Kozłowska (PhD), Katarzyna Jóźwik, Wojciech Paciura and Piotr Gałkowski.

The report presents, among other things, the achievements of PGI-NRI in the modernisation of key systems, implementation of a common GIS infrastructure, improvement of data quality and accessibility, and discusses current problems and plans for the future. The draft Joint Geological Cartography Platform (WPKG, or Wspólna Platforma Kartografii Geologicznej in Polish) is presented, emphasising its role as a central access point for cartographic data and highlighting the functionalities and English-language version of the application for managing the WPKG digital repository.
