The event brought together a large group of climate negotiators and was attended by representatives of the Parties to the Framework Convention on Climate Change (197 countries), including a Polish delegation represented by, among others, Urszula Czarniecka-Januszczyk from the Groundwater Monitoring Department of the Polish Geological Institute – National Research Institute (PGI-NRI), a member of the Polish Presidency Team at the Council of the European Union at the Ministry of Climate and Environment.

The Polish delegation also included representatives of the Ministry of Climate and Environment, the Permanent Representation of the Republic of Poland to the EU, the Institute of Environmental Protection – National Research Institute, the Institute of Meteorology and Water Management – National Research Institute, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, and the National Centre for Climate Change.

During the session, numerous events covered by the official mandate of the Convention took place, including key negotiations on:

  • climate change mitigation and adaptation,
  • technology transfer,
  • just transition,
  • agriculture and social issues,
  • budget and financing of climate action.

The technical session in Bonn was attended by over 1,600 people, including over 1,200 representatives of government administrations and around 400 representatives of UN bodies and agencies, intergovernmental organisations, civil society organisations and the media. Although events of this type usually attract fewer participants than COP climate summits, they are crucial for the preparation and continuation of international negotiations.

The participation of a PGI-NRI expert in the delegation's work is not only an expression of the Institute's commitment to climate action at the international level, but also an opportunity to exchange experiences, establish contacts and deepen knowledge about the challenges related to climate change and environmental protection. The presence of the Institute's representative in such a prestigious group also confirms the important role of PGI-NRI in monitoring and managing groundwater resources in the context of climate change.
