On 25 August 2025 in Ulaanbaatar, Deputy Director for Science and Scientific Support of the Polish Geological Service, Prof. Stanisław Mikulski, PhD, signed a Cooperation Agreement between the Polish Geological Institute – National Research Institute and the Institute of Geology of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences (IG-MAN).
The signatory on behalf of IG-MAN was the director of the unit, Turbold Sukhbaatar, PhD. The agreement is a result of the Letter of Intent signed in April 2025 on mutual scientific cooperation between the institutes.
The following have been identified as potential areas of cooperation between the Institutes:
- regional geology,
- geodiversity,
- geological heritage,
- geological education and popularisation of geological sciences.

The scope of co-operation may include:
- joint applications for research grants and implementation of research projects in areas of common interest,
- exchange of scientists, students and technical staff,
- organisation of joint scientific workshops, field campaigns and training programmes,
- joint scientific publications and sharing of geological data,
- mutual capacity building and technical support in laboratory and analytical methodologies,
- other forms of cooperation that the Parties may mutually agree upon.
During the meeting, Director S. Mikulski also proposed the possibility of developing cooperation in the field of isotope research (U, Pb, Th, O and S) using the modern research infrastructure available at PGI-NRI. This proposal received considerable interest from Director Sukbaatar, particularly in the field of geochronological research on magmatic and volcanic rocks from the Mongolia region.
