We have launched a modern digital repository, which for the first time brings together comprehensive resources of Polish geological cartography in one place. Over a century of work by Polish cartographers – and their foreign colleagues – has resulted in a collection of over 30,000 cartographic products, now easy to search, described with rich metadata and available online.
The repository has been created and is maintained as part of the Polish Geological Cartography Platform (WPKG). It includes both current geological materials as well as archival and historical collections: maps, cross-sections, thematic sketches, atlases, explanatory texts and other studies on geology in Poland.
The WPKG Repository application allows users to quickly find interesting materials using an advanced search engine and extensive filters based on e.g., scale, authors, keywords or type of study. After a short registration process, users can download the available files.
The repository is not only a modern way of sharing archival resources – it is also an important step towards the future of digital geology. The system develops content management, duplicate control and data quality functions. There are also plans to implement DOIs, which will ensure a higher standard of sharing and citing scientific materials.
We would like to invite you to use the application and jointly discover the rich geological heritage of Poland: https://repozytoriumwpkg.pgi.gov.pl
