The monograph ‘The Geological Structure of Poland. Volume II – Tectonics’, edited by Prof. Paweł Aleksandrowski and PhD Karol Zglinicki, provides an up-to-date and comprehensive overview of the country’s structural composition and the geological processes that have shaped the Polish territory over hundreds of millions of years. This monograph is the result of cooperation between dozens of specialists representing various fields of Earth sciences.

The authors present the current state of knowledge on the tectonic structure of Poland, including the results of the latest geological, geophysical, and geochemical research. This publication is one of the most important contemporary studies on the structural evolution of the Polish territory.

Tectonics is the science dealing with the structure and deformations of the Earth’s crust. It is tectonic processes that are responsible for the formation of mountains, sedimentary basins, faults, and other geological structures which determine the present-day geological landscape of our country. Understanding how these processes occur is crucial for understanding Poland’s geological history, as well as for the exploration of mineral resources, the assessment of geothermal potential, the storage of substances such as hydrogen and hydrocarbons, the evaluation of geological and engineering conditions, and analyses related to geological safety.
