The project entitled “Methods of Conducting Research and Selecting Geotechnical Solutions Concerning Road Investments” was co-financed from the State Budget. The project was co-financed by the National Centre for Research and Development (NCBR) under the joint NCBR and General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA) initiative, the Road Innovation Development Programme (RID).

The objective of the project is to develop up-to-date guidelines for conducting research and selecting geotechnical solutions in the field of ground improvement technologies concerning road investments. The guidelines will take into account individual stages of task preparation as well as various soil and water conditions.

The project also involves the verification of existing and commonly used solutions and new technologies, with particular emphasis on unusual conditions for the foundation of road structures in complex geotechnical conditions, including landslides, mining exploitation areas, areas affected by karst phenomena, and areas of organic soils with high compressibility.

The project is being carried out by a research consortium:

  • AGH University of Krakow – Project Leader
  • Polish Geological Institute – National Research Institute – Consortium Partner
  • Road and Bridge Research Institute – Consortium Partner
  • Gdańsk University of Technology – Consortium Partner

The final result will be a set of Guidelines aimed at streamlining the activities of the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA) related to methods for improving the bearing capacity of the subsoil of road investments and minimizing risks associated with the use of geotechnical solutions not adapted to soil and water conditions.
