The project entitled “Modern Methods of Subsoil Investigation in Road Construction” was carried out under the national Road Innovation Development Programme (RID), launched by the National Centre for Research and Development (NCBR). The project was financed by the National Centre for Research and Development (NCBR) and the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA).

The main objective of the project was to develop the “Guidelines for Subsoil Investigation for Road Construction”. The Guidelines were addressed to professional groups, institutions and companies involved in or concerned with road construction. The document provided a comprehensive and modern approach to the issue of subsoil investigation.

The project was carried out by a research consortium,:

  • Polish Geological Institute – National Research Institute – Project Leader
  • AGH University of Krakow – Consortium Partner
  • Warsaw University of Technology – Consortium Partner

The outcome of the project was implemented in the activities of the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA). On 27 June 2019, the General Director for National Roads and Motorways signed Order No. 22 introducing the Guidelines for Subsoil Investigation for Road Construction for use within GDDKiA.

The Guidelines are to be applied to new public procurement procedures for road investments carried out on national roads and motorways, including the construction and reconstruction of roads, as well as road rehabilitation works, subject to a detailed analysis of the scope of the investment.

The Guidelines consist of three parts:

  • Part 1: Guidelines for Subsoil Investigation in Road Construction- PDF

  • Part 2: Guidelines for the Assessment of Slope and Embankment Stability for Road Construction- PDF

  • Part 3: Geomonitoring. Monitoring of the Subsoil and Structural Components

    • VOLUME 1 - PDF
    • VOLUME 2 - PDF
