Mining is to remain the core of Poland’s energy mix

Hard coal and lignite are to account for almost 60 percent of Poland’s energy mix by 2030 and potentially until 2050.

According to the nettg.pl portal, some premises of Poland’s energy policy until 2050 have been presented at the meeting of the Tripartite Teams for the Social Security of Hard Coal and Lignite Miners held in the Ministry of Energy. Mr. Grzegorz Tobiszowski, Deputy Energy Minister, has announced that hard coal and lignite are to account for 60 percent of Poland’s energy mix by 2030 and potentially until 2050. The balance energy will be drawn from natural gas, renewable energy sources (RES) and from the planned nuclear plant.

Key objectives are to maintain the Poland’s energy independence, enhance competitiveness of the economy and safety/security aspects.

Professor Mariusz Orion Jędrysek, Chief Geologist and Deputy Minister of the Environment, has announced that National Resource Policy is about to be completed. – “This is a very concise information that will tell us how to deliver national resource policy, how to gain in an efficient way and be geopolitically strengthened. I do expect the resource policy to be adopted in the year to come” – said Professor Jędrysek.
