Another PGI-NRI expedition to Antarctica
On 13 January 2025, a team of geologists from the Polish Geological Institute – National Research Institute set off for Antarctica. This is the fifth expedition under the substantive leadership of Prof. Jerzy Nawrocki, with the objective being King George Island, located in West Antarctica.
10th Anniversary of the Ion Microprobe Laboratory at PGI-NRI
On 5 December 2024, a Jubilee Scientific Session to mark the 10th anniversary of the Ion Microprobe Laboratory of the Polish Geological Institute – National Research Institute in Warsaw was held in the building of the PGI-NRI Geological Museum. The main objective of the event was to summarise the scientific achievements which have been achieved thanks to the results of analyses obtained using the SHRIMP IIe/MC ion microprobe.
Visit of PGI-NRI representatives to the research laboratory of Geolabs Ltd near London
On 20 November 2024, a workshop on soil and rock testing for geotechnical purposes was held at the Geolabs Ltd laboratory in Watford near London as part of The British Geotechnical Association (BGA) activities. The workshop was attended by representatives from the Polish Geological Institute – National Research Institute from the Department of Engineering Geology and Shallow Geothermics.
Cooperation between stratigraphers from France and Poland – in search of the ‘golden nail’ site (Jurassic/Cretaceous boundary)
A meeting of the French working groups on Jurassic and Cretaceous stratigraphy (Reunion Conjointe GFC/Groupe Jurassique de la section STRATI) was held on 2-3 December 2024 at the Sorbonne University (Paris).
