PGI-NRI has evaluated the geothermal potential of nearly 80 municipalities
Thermal waters are a valuable resource used in many sectors of the country’s economy, which enjoy growing interest from many investors, including the local government. It is evidenced by, among others, the response from wójts, mayors and presidents to the action taken by the Polish Geological Institute - National Research Institute (PGI-NRI) in cooperation with the Ministry of Climate and Environment and the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management, consisting of making available assessments on the volume of geothermal potential in individual municipalities.
The PGI - NRI Scientific Council has awarded a Doctor habilitus degree to Dr. Maria Waksmundzka
We are pleased to announce that by the resolution no. 1/I/2022, dated the 25th of January, 2022, the Polish Geological Institute-NRI Scientific Council has unanimously conferred on Dr. Maria Waksmundzka, of the Department of Regional Geology, the academic degree of Doctor habilitus in the field of Natural Sciences, in the discipline of Earth and Environmental Sciences.
Integration of resource geology data from hydrocarbon systems of Poland - stage 3 of PGS’ continuous task is in progress
The level of Poland's energy security is shaped by many factors, one of which is securing the domestic resource base, including hydrocarbons. While shaping the resource policy and conducting exploration and prospecting studies in concession and tender areas it is necessary to have up-to-date geological and resource geology data.

The Polish Geological Institute - NRI is currently integrating all available archival geological and reservoir data for hydrocarbon systems from the entire area of Poland.
