The Polish Geological Institute manages the National Geological Archives (NGA), the main national archive of geological and geo-environmental data as well as rock and soil samples. The NGA supports the work of the Polish Geological Survey and the Polish Hydrogeological Survey.
From the 1st of January 2012, public access to the geological information held by the NGA is regulated by:
- The Act of Geological and Mining Law dated 9th June 2011 (Journal of Laws No. 163, item 981)
[unofficial translation of act of 9 June 2011 Geological and Mining Law] - The Ordinance of the Minister of the Environment dated 15th December 2011 on gathering and access to geological information (Journal of Laws No. 282, item 1657);
- The Ordinance of the Minister of the Environment dated 20th December 2011 on paid use of geological information (Journal of Laws No. 292, item 1724)
Therefore the previous application forms for access to geological information, free of charge and paid, are no longer valid. They have been superseded by the
document
Application for accessing and release of materials stored by the National Geological Archive and Central Geological Database (CGDB)
(40 KB)
. The new application forms do not require the approval of the Director of PGI-NRI.
From the 1st of January 2012, application forms for access to the data held by the National Geological Archive apply only to materials gathered in the NGA (in Warsaw and other regional offices of PGI-NRI) and data stored in Central Geological Database (CBDG). Access of geological information held by other organizational units of PGI-NRI is regulated by rules specified by these units. Access to geological information held by the NGA based on applications submitted and approved by the Director of PGI-NRI before 1st January 2012 is regulated by the previously existing rules.
