The Polish Geological Institute manages the Central Geological Archives (CGA), the main national archive of geological and geo-environmental data as well as rock and soil samples. The CGA supports the work of the Polish Geological Survey and the Polish Hydrogeological Survey.

From the 1st of January 2012, public access to the geological information held by the CGA is regulated by:

• The Act of Geological and Mining Law dated 9th June 2011 (Journal of Laws of 2021, item 1420)
• The Ordinance of the Minister of the Environment dated 30th October 2017 on gathering and access to geological information (Journal of Laws of 2017, item 2075);
• The Ordinance of the Minister of the Environment dated 20th December 2011 on paid use of geological information (Journal of Laws No. 292, item 1724)
