GeoShale 2014
Recent advances in geology of fine-grained sediments
The Conference will continue the work of the GeoShale 2012 Recent advances in geology of gine-grained sediments, which ended up with, we hope, a great success: 180 scientists from 19 countries for three days discussed shale sedimentology, stratigraphy, physical and geochemical properties, and gas exploration and production issues.
Fine grained sediments form approximately 70% of sedimentary record. Because of the wide spectrum of the application, the great increase of the interest in shale is observed. Shales are traditionally known as a source and seal rocks for the petroleum industry and become recognized nowadays as very important reservoir target in the shale gas/oil plays. Their low permeability has also a major impact on waste storage planning, including CO2 and nuclear waste.
The Palaeozoic basins in Poland have recently become the area of very intense studies due to their hydrocarbon potential.
